The Polish Journal of English Studies is an international, peer-reviewed, diamond open-access journal devoted to publishing high-quality research in English Studies, encompassing literary studies, cultural studies, translation studies, linguistics and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal focuses on theoretically informed and methodologically rigorous scholarship that addresses specific aspects of Anglophone literatures, cultures and languages.
The journal’s scope reflects its established profile, with particular emphasis on modern and contemporary literature, modernist and postmodernist studies, and emerging critical frameworks such as posthumanism, ecocriticism, affect theory and cultural analysis. Recurring areas of interest include identity and subjectivity (gender, sexuality, race, migration and ageing), intermediality and adaptation across literature, film, and digital media, as well as the translation, reception and cross-cultural circulation of Anglophone texts. The PJES also publishes research in linguistics and applied linguistics, including discourse analysis, corpus-based studies and English language pedagogy in multilingual contexts.
A distinctive feature of the journal is its Central and Eastern European perspective, which foregrounds the regional reception and approaches to the English language as well as to Anglophone literature and culture. By combining a strong regional focus with a global outlook, the Polish Journal of English Studies provides a platform for comparative, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary research relevant to the international English Studies community.
The journal is published by the Polish Association for the Study of English, a member of the European Society for the Study of English. It welcomes submissions by authors from all over the world; so far, it has published articles written by scholars from over thirty countries. Articles published in the Polish Journal of English Studies are listed in the following databases: ERIH Plus, MLA International Bibliography, EBSCO, ABELL – ProQuest Literature Online (LION), Directory of Open Access Journals and others.
